Irish cafés and restaurants
POS system for cafés and restaurants in Ireland
Since July 2026 an Irish café charges two VAT rates on many bills: 9% on the food and 23% on the drinks that never came down. Café QR is a cloud POS that handles that per item, bills in euro and keeps your hours on Dublin time. The till, kitchen display, open tabs and floor plan, bookings and cash-up run in one system on the tablets you already have, with QR table ordering built in. It starts at €35 per venue, per month, and we never take a cut of an order.

Where we are
We are a Liverpool company, so setup is a screen-share rather than a site visit: we build your menu and till from a photo of your menu, lay out your floor plan and stay on the call while you put a test sale through. Your venue's own clock drives opening hours and daily takings, so nothing runs on UK time.
01
Two VAT rates on one bill
The hospitality rate went back to 9% for food and catering on 1 July 2026, but alcohol, soft drinks and bottled water stayed at 23%. A brunch for two in Rathmines or Stoneybatter now carries both, and a till that only knows one rate gets the VAT wrong on almost every bill.
Set 9% as the café's rate and mark the drinks that stay at 23% on the item itself. Each item can also carry its own takeaway rate, for anything your accountant tells you is taxed differently to take away. Irish menus show prices with VAT included, and the receipt breaks out the VAT in each rate.
- A café-wide rate, with per-item rates where they differ
- A separate takeaway rate on any item that needs one
- Prices shown VAT-inclusive, as Irish menus are

Tips recorded by who served
Irish employers have to tell staff how tips and service charges are shared, and card tips have to reach them. The till takes a tip as a preset percentage or a typed amount, recorded against the cash or card that paid it, so the drawer count stays right and the tips report shows what each person who served took.
Guests ordering from the table or online can tip at checkout too. Online payments go to the café's own Stripe account, tip included; we do not hold it or take a share of it.
03
Euro pricing, and what the POS does not do here yet
Café QR starts at €35 a month for QR ordering, the kitchen screen, menu and loyalty tools; the till, waiter app, tabs, floor plan, bookings and cash-up are added on top, and we quote that in euro before you start. It is a flat monthly price, not a percentage of your takings, and you get your own page for collection and delivery with no commission.
Built-in card readers are UK only for now, so outside the UK you keep the card terminal you have: take the payment on it and tap Card on the till to record the sale.
- Billed in euro, with your hours on Dublin time
- You are the merchant; we never hold your money
- One month free, no card needed

Questions
Cafés and restaurants in Ireland ask
Does the POS handle 9% food and 23% drinks VAT?
Yes. Set 9% as your café's rate and mark the drinks that stay at 23% on the item. Items can also carry their own takeaway rate. Prices include VAT and the receipt breaks it out by rate.
Can I keep my card terminal in Ireland?
Yes, and for now you need to. Built-in card readers are UK only for now, so outside the UK you keep the card terminal you have: take the payment on it and tap Card on the till to record the sale.
What does Café QR cost in Ireland?
From €35 per venue, per month, billed in euro, after one month free with no card needed. That covers QR ordering, the kitchen screen, menu and loyalty tools; the till and the rest of the full POS are added on top, quoted in euro before you start. There is no per-order fee.
Pricing
One price. Every table. No commission.
You pay the same each month whether guests order fifty times or five thousand. We never take a share of your orders, and guest payments go straight into your own account.
