A till that fits a listed building
A lot of Chester's cafés and tea rooms occupy old, listed or awkwardly shaped buildings: narrow frontages, split levels, a counter tucked into a corner. There is rarely room for a second till point or a run of new cabling.
The till runs on a tablet you already own, the kitchen screen on another, and a waiter app on a phone lets staff take an order upstairs without walking back to the counter. Each table has its own place on the floor plan, so staff know which table ordered even on a split level.

Bookings for afternoon tea, walk-ins for coffee
Chester's tea rooms take bookings for afternoon tea and walk-ins for everything else. The POS plan includes your own booking page, which only offers times that fit your opening hours and free seats, and a bookings diary staff can seat from.
Visitors who walk in can order from the QR on the table in the phone's browser, with no account and nothing installed, so the counter is free for takeaway.

Seasonal swings, counted at close
Trade in a visitor city swings hard between a wet February weekday and a summer Saturday. Hiring for the peak is expensive; being understaffed at the peak costs orders.
Reports show the busy hours by weekday so rotas follow the trade, and cash-up at close counts the drawer against the float and tells you whether it is over or short.
