How to Set Card and Cash Sales Tax Rates on Your POS
Charge Punjab's 8% sales tax on card and digital payments and 16% on cash automatically, show tax as its own line on the bill, and add a service charge.
Updated 17 October 2026
Since July 2026, restaurants in Punjab charge sales tax at two rates depending on how the guest pays: 8% for card and digital payments and 16% for cash. Café QR handles both: you set the two rates once, and every bill uses the right one for how it was paid. (Why the two rates exist, and how to show them on your menu, is in our post on Punjab restaurant sales tax.)
Set your rates
- Open Settings in your dashboard, then VAT, receipts & trading day. Only the owner can change tax settings.
- In VAT rate %, enter your card and wallet rate. In Punjab, 8. (The field is called VAT, but it's your sales tax.)
- In Cash tax rate %, enter your cash rate: in Punjab, 16. Leave it empty if you charge the same rate for cash.
- Set the Tax name guests see on the bill, for example Sales tax or PST.
- If your menu prices are before tax (most Pakistani menus are), untick Menu prices already include VAT. The bill then shows the tax as its own line.
- Save.
Which payments get which rate
- Card and digital rate (8%): Raast, JazzCash, Easypaisa, and card on your bank's machine.
- Cash rate (16%): cash, and every order placed to pay at the counter.
The lower digital rate is a good reason to put Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa front and centre: guests save money by paying digitally.
Add a service charge
If you add a service charge, enter it under Service charge % in Settings. It appears as its own line on the bill, separate from tax.
Print the PRA number too
If you're registered with the Punjab Revenue Authority for e-invoicing, Café QR can also report each paid sale and print PRA's invoice number and QR code on the bill. See PRA e-invoicing for restaurants.
Common questions
I'm outside Punjab. Does this work for me? Yes. Set the rates your province uses. If there's only one rate, leave the cash rate empty.
Can I show prices including tax? Yes: tick Menu prices already include VAT and the tax is worked out inside the price instead of added on top.
Do reports separate the tax? Yes. Daily takings and the cash-up report show tax on its own line, and the takings by each payment method.
